Gloria Bananas
Gloria Bananas

Quite unusual, wouldn’t you say?  Bananas with deep maroon skins; they’re also quite fragrant when peeled and the flesh within is sweet with a slightly tangy aftertaste.

These are called glorias and we recently found these being sold by a fruit cart across the street from the Mary, Mother of God church in Bayanan, Muntinlupa.  They’re pretty large and make satisfying snacks or desserts when eaten fresh.

They’re also perfect for making banana streusel cakes – but that is a story for another day.  😉

  1. Interesting. I’ll keep an eye out for those. I hope they start selling it in supermarkets. I once bought an extremely huge banana in Rustan’s (about as long as my forearm). Didn’t know how to eat it really…
I peeled at took a bite.. it tasted horrible. Maybe it was meant for cooking?
