Chocolate and Raspberries for Breakfast

Chocolate Muffin and Iced Raspberry Chai

On days when even a proper plateful of rice, a cheese omelet, and homemade sausage can’t wake me up, chances are that I’m craving for something rich and sweet to start my day.

That said, such times find me hightailing to the Figaro Coffee stall at the building lobby before work.  There’s always a reasonable selection of cakes, pastries, and savory baked goods to choose from, and the coffee drinks are quite good.  But on such days, I switch over from being a coffee person to a tea person and I demand chai in a serious way.

A chocolate muffin, rich and properly stodgy, usually helps me open my eyes on my sweet-craving mornings.  Figaro’s muffin is richly flavored and studded throughout with large chocolate chips.  And, since raspberries are a natural partner for chocolate, the iced Raspberry Chai Swizzle makes a good drink to sip with the muffin.  Chilled chai is poured over a generous layer of seeded raspberry jam and ice to make a pink-streaked sipper that may be a tad too sweet for many, but is just perfect with me.
