Not Your Usual Burger Steak

Burgers, rice, a salad, and some miso soup. What could be better?

I’m such a fan of JiPan that it’s rather disappointing that I rarely ever go there these days; there’s just too much to do, and too little time to do it in!

Recently, however, I was lucky enough to be able to take a bit of breather and sit down to one of my favorite lunches at JiPan’s Glorietta branch: the Wafu Hamburg set.

This particular rice meal differs from the regular Hamburg Steak set in the sense that the demiglace used to top the burger patties is less sweet and has more of a savory soy flavor to it.  Plus, it comes with a bowl of  miso soup – such a comfort on the sort of chilly evenings we’ve been experiencing of late.

The burgers here are quite a bit softer than the ones flogged at your neighborhood burger joint, but they’re thicker and more flavorful.  Yes, extenders do come into play, but when you realize that breadcrumbs made from the shop’s own excellent wares were used, you can’t complain as these are delicious, indeed.

The salad that comes with this plate lunch is a crisp combination of finely shredded cabbage, carrots, and sliced cucumber with a creamy mayo-based dressing that’s not quite a Caesar.  (No anchovies, actually, but close.)  It provides a crisp, sweet, and colorful contrast to the burgers and the soft white rice.  (Speaking of the rice, isn’t the way it’s molded cute?  The kitchen used a plum-blossom shaped mold for it!)

If you’re more than a little burned out after a gruelling week at work or an exhausting weekend’s worth of errands, this meal will certainly put some color back into your cheeks and give you enough energy for the trip home.  😉
