If, like me, you work a 9-to-5 (actually 9-to-6) job, chances are that you’ll be seriously drowsy when four in the afternoon rolls around. You need a serious shot in the arm, something to wake you up and put you back on track.
In my case, it’s a situation that usually calls for something milky paired with a bite of cake. I know that sounds odd because I know a lot of people who actually have that particular combination for when they’re wired and need to sleep. In my case, however, it’s a combo that gives me a much-needed boost of energy – especially when there’s a ton of stuff that needs doing.
This particular mid-afternoon milk break involves an ice-cold Kaffe Kream from Krispy Kreme and a double-chocolate cake Kruffin. Quite a caffeine rush, wouldn’t you say?
The Kruffin is a bit on the fluffy side either than the stodgy as it has a lighter crumb than most chocolate cakes I’ve had, but it is pretty good. However, considering how it’s supposed to be a double chocolate cake, it tastes more of cocoa and cinnamon than actual chocolate. That isn’t bad, but it’s in fairly off form if you’re offering something that’s supposed to give diners a serious jolt of chocolatey-goodness,
The coffee, on the other hand, was much better. It’s pretty much constructed along the lines of another coffee bar’s iced caramel macchiato: layer of sweet vanilla syrup on the bottom, layer of fresh milk, and a layer of coffee on top. Since it’s in a clear plastic tumbler, the effect is quite pretty. Taste-wise, it hits the spot very well: mix everything together and you have a none-too-sweet, just bitter enough, and creamy chilled coffee drink that is delightful to just sip slowly down.
It’s the perfect jet fuel for those afternoons when the deadlines are screaming at you and you can barely scare up the energy to get going. 😉
